Our patients worry about the safety of x-rays and the potential harm of radiation. Digital X-rays emit mild amounts of radiation and are considered safe for adults and even children. The amount of radiation is low, but not non-existent, which is why we still prefer not to perform x-rays for pregnant women and infants.

CT scans carry an even greater risk because they’re like magnified digital x-rays. They’re not heavily relied upon in dentistry, and getting a couple of CTs throughout your entire life shouldn’t be harmful. MRIs are considered the most advanced imaging machines we have. There are a few indications for them in dentistry, but digital x-rays in Toronto, are still the most heavily relied upon.
